Goals

  • The first goal aims to create a toolbox of sorts for myself, one which gives me tools that allow for high quality deliverables. This was developed mostly through the middle of the academic year. This was during the end of the first CBL project, and the Arduino “Brain” project. For the CBL project I took charge of the aesthetics of the board game which we were developing, and wanted to give the users a feel of mystery and curiosity. The posters serve as a great example of me using a digital tool (in this case Canva) to bring my ideas forward. Most visual elements within the poster I created myself, since the artstyle I was trying to achieve allowed for a good starting point to test my abilities. I am quite proud of the result, and as a general beginner to graphic design it gets the desired message across. For the other project I focused less on the tangible components and more on becoming more familiar with Arduino. Learning how to code in C++ would serve as a useful skill to make future projects more interactive. The outcome was Perry the Penguin, who was able to react to light, touch and radio signals from other robots. (Add video of interactions, circuit outline, and physical circuit). While I was able to learn a significant amount, for the final quartile of the year I want to focus on 3D printing with Solidworks. It is a technique that I haven’t looked too much into this year, when it comes to making the digital model, and is an essential for quick prototyping.

  • The second goal focuses more on personal expression, being not the most comfortable person with sharing my ideas, it is crucial to develop some self confidence especially in this field where you are forced to be “someone”. I would say this is probably my least developed goal at the current moment, though some progress has been made. First and foremost I would say comes the portfolio itself. As you probably noticed to navigate the website one needs to click on the different book covers to get to the desired pages. As someone who is fascinated by this from the media, I wanna bring more attention to it. There was no need to do it this way, but I wanted to take that extra step and make something more unique. Not being as upfront with my interests and inspirations is what is holding me back most as a designer. While it has trickled into some of the work I have done this year, the aesthetics of ID8 being heavily inspired from another video game “Firewatch”, it is all tied to my acamedics. So for the fourth quartile I want to start my own mini personal project, outside of the academic sphere, where I set my own limitations.

  • The third goal is my ability to work alongside feedback from my peers and superiors. As someone who is quite self contained, reaching out for feedback out of my own accord is an unlikely occurrence. In addition, acting productively on the received feedback, has always been a struggle. There is only so much work one can do alone, so remaining in this mindset will ultimately be a hindrance to me as a designer. Hence this year I want to focus on reaching out to peers and assessors, who can give me critical advice on my projects. Then naturally making and recording the changes based on the information I receive.
